Statement of Purpose
The purpose for the RCDCU Bike-A-Thon is to raise money to increase the awareness of Prostate Cancer and the importance of early detection. Contributions will be made to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Foundation that will provide three days of FREE prostate cancer screening to the cyclists and men throughout the communities of Somerset and Middlesex counties. According to the American Cancer Society, nearly 7278 men in New Jersey were diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and more than 900 men died from the disease statewide. African American men have the world’s highest rate of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is also the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Hispanic men. African American men are 60% more likely to develop prostate cancer compared to Caucasian men and nearly 2.5 times likely to die from the disease.
Renaissance Cyclists Defeating Cancer United, Inc. (RCDCU) is a nonprofit 501 (C) (3) Charitable Organization incorporated on November 13, 2015.
Our goal and mission is to increase awareness, and fighting cancer through early detection, screening and education.
RCDCU Bike-A-Thon was previously part of the Renaissance Community Development Credit Union. The bike-a-thon committee voted unanimously to form a nonprofit corporation and move the bike-a-thon out from under the Credit Union. For more information about RCDCU, visit our website at www.rcdcubike.com
